| Auto Club Speedway Fundraiser March 23-25, 2012 |
|
|
***** Anyone working at the track, print this out and take it with you. It answers most questions*****
Hi Everyone! It's time to go back and help out the Speedway! Because, as Scouts, we always 'Do Our Best,' the Speedway has invited us back to Fontana again.
Because we are Pack 204, and because we have a few extra duties (more than other groups), we must lead by example.
"Our budget did not allow for the purchase of hats this race, so if most of your volunteers are returning and worked the Oct race, they should have the royal blue hat that was distributed to them. Please ask them to use that hat for this race. We have a precious few of those hats left, so if you have a newbie or two working this race they will receive one. Please wear Auto Club Speedway hats only. If they have the Auto Club 500 hat, that cannot be worn since this is the Auto Club 400 race"
So dig in your closets and try to find your hat from the last race is you can. No California Speedway hats. If you bring the wrong hat, you can't wear it. If you have a few hats, or have questions, please bring them all and we'll figure it out.
Dress code:
Long, black pants for men and women (NOT denim),although women may wear 'capris', just below the knee, if they want. It is smart to wear comfortable shoes (dark sneakers), as there may be a lot of walking. The track will be providing T-shirts, hats and credentials (usually the Wednesday before the race). I will co-ordinate with Barbie Matthews that week to distribute the stuff.
If you don't get your T-shirt and hat prior to the race, you can pick them up at the track when you come to work., no problem. There are portable pottys to change your shirts if needed.
Location:
The track is located at 9300 Cherry Ave in Fontana. It is about 1 mile north of the 10 freeway. If you take the 10, exit Cherry and head north. Just before you reach the main entrance (Gate 1), there will be a sign that will say 'Volunteer Parking.'
Go down the road, and over the train tracks. You will be parking on a dirt lot. There will be a gate on the north side of the lot, go thru the gate, and turn right. We will be in a white tent, in Lot 2A.
Job Descriptions:
For those of you who haven't worked before, we will be doing the check-in of the other volunteers working at the track, working handing out programs at the entry gates and working the Kid Zone areas. Others that have worked before, may be helping out other groups that are short-handed, or other areas that need assistance. This is one of the fun parts.
Some will be working at the KidZone, and some will be working on the trams. These people know who they are. Some 'new' people, if they want, can assist in these areas, to learn, for next time. If you haven't worked the track before, no problem. Barbie and I will never put someone alone in an area they have never worked before. We will always put an 'experienced' person with a beginner, at least for awhile, until you learn the position. Not to worry, this isn't rocket science, and Barbie and I are always a phonecall away.
Schedule:
The race weekend is Friday, March 23, thru Sunday March 25, 2012.
Training:
All first-time volunteers: xxxxxxxxxx

Friday: xxxxx
Saturday: xxxxx
Sunday: xxxxx
Food:
The track will be providing lunches each day (hamburger, ham sandwiches, hot dogs and deli sandwinches usually), and there will be food for sale at the track as well. You may bring a small cooler to our work area if you like, but can't bring it into the track.
*************IF RAIN IS IN THE FORECAST**************** - Yes, we still show up, yes, the track still needs us, yes, we still work - bring raingear!!! Just in case - we are Scouts - BE PREPARED!
Breaks:
Everyone that wants to, may take a break or two to look around the track, as long as our 'main' work areas are covered (This has never been an issue. We have an awesome team, and we make sure everyone gets to sightsee). When on a break, you must wear a jacket or change shirts. Can't have 'workers' around the track sightseeing. Doesn't look good. Gate-Greeters - we will 'overstaff' your positions, so you can 'self-break' each other.
When we're done:
Anyone that wants can stay and watch the racing if they want. Please, just change out of your 'worker' outfit. There will be 'porta-potties' to change shirts, if you want. Again, this has never been an issue.
Most of all, have fun! If anyone has questions, the supervisors are:
Tom Ryan: Cell 818.321.8773
Barbie Matthews: Cell 909.510.7589 or 909.680.5424.
See you there!
